WEEK 4: Credit
This Week’s Goal: To learn how your credit score is calculated, how to get your score for free, and how to establish a plan for raising it.
Today’s Easy Financial Task: Get your free credit report(s)
How to rock this task :
- Go to www.annualcreditreport.com
- Get your free credit reports (not to be confused with credit score).
Hurray! You’ve made it to the Credit week! This week I’ll show you how to get your free credit reports, how to clean up your report, and most importantly, how to dramatically raise your credit score in a relatively short period of time.
Let’s get started! Did you know that you can get your credit report every year….for free? Yup! There are three main credit-reporting agencies, and each of them will give you your credit report once a year at no cost.
These agencies are:
Experian: 1-888- 397-3742 / www.experian.com
TransUnion: 1-800-888-4213 / www.transunion.com
Equifax: 1-800-685-1111 / www.equifax.com
So what are you waiting for? Go and get your credit reports! You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report every year from each bureau. This site gives access to all THREE for FREE: Annualcreditreport.com. It will not ask for your credit card. It will ask you to verify information that you only know about. Make sure you have access to a printer so you can print each one or save as a .pdf to access it later. (thanks Najla)
Some people like to get them all at once, while others like to space them out and request a credit report from a different agency every three months. Whatever your preference is … just make sure you get them.
If you've already used up your annual credit reports you can also get free ones from www.creditkarma.com.
Shocked about your credit report? Don’t worry. I’m going to show you how to improve it in the next few days.
How are you feeling about the Challenge so far? What are your credit issues? Don't be shy, share with me in the comments below.

My Lisa Rule: I have 4 sisters and Lisa is the baby (well she’s not a baby anymore). Of all of my sisters I’m the most protective over her. Before I share any product or service with you, it must pass my Lisa Rule.
What’s the Lisa Rule? If I would not advise Lisa to use a product or service, I won’t advise you to. YOU are my Lisas. I feel protective over you and your financial journey.
The products/services mentioned in this post pass my Lisa Rule. Yes, I'm an affiliate, but I would not recommend a product or service that I didn’t believe was helpful and useful.
