Day 7+ of the LIVE RICHER series in India

Words can't describe how amazing it was to celebrate the Holi Festival in its birthplace, India. The fact that I got to share this experience with 15 other Nomad•ness Travel Tribe women was the cherry on top of an already yummy cake. Today was filled with so much laughter, hugs, dancing, singing, embracing, powder throwing and face rubbing. My cup runneth over.

The Holi Festival of Colors is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima, which comes during the end of February or early March. The festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. Holi is supposed to bridge social gaps and renew relationships. Everyone around you takes colored powered and gently rubs it on your face (usually), then embraces you and says, 'Happy Holi'! It was beautiful to see so many otherwise, serious adults “playing Holi”, by throwing power, dancing in the street and general merry-making.

I’ve never hugged so many strangers in my life. It was amazing visually, but also spiritually. See for yourself…..

I’ve traveled a lot in the past few years and this was by far one of my favorite trips to date. I learned so much and met so many amazing women.

Nomad*ness is a travel tribe specifically geared toward travelers of color. Like the tribe, the women on the trip came from around the world to share the experience of amazing India. There were ladies from The U.S., Rwanda, South Korea, Japan and Dubai. I already have invitations to visit several of the women in there respective cities!

Travel = Opportunity

I truly believe that one of the best ways to expand your knowledge, grow in wisdom and develop as a person is to see at least a little of the world.

Travel Health insurance (coverage $150k): $21

Accommodations (hotel, daily breakfast, 2-day trip transportation): $300

2-night stay hotel in Mumbai (included airport shuttle and breakfast): $100

I’ve been saving 5% of my total income as The Budgetnista in a savings account specially earmarked for travel. I had $1200 in there and cut back on some unnecessary expenses to get the rest of the money.   It’s important to plan for your amazing life.

I hope you’ve enjoyed sharing my journey with me. Please feel free to read Days 1-6, if so inclined.

Here’s one last lesson…

The LIVE RICHER Lesson:

Live. While on this trip, I learned that one of the women has a brain tumor. At our last meal together she explained that the tumor is growing and that her time here on this earth, was uncertain.

She made the decision not to allow them to operate, so one doctor advised her to live and she's been traveling the world ever since. Her bravery, her zest for life, her kindness and her energy…was transformative.

Through her I was reminded that all of our time here is uncertain and that we should all take the doctor’s orders and…LIVE!

Live richer,

Tiffany
